How to add a lunar calendar widget to your Android home screen

Updated November 6, 2026 • vLunar

On Android the lunar calendar widget sits right on your home screen next to your app icons. The steps are the same on most phones; button names can differ a little by brand and version.

Today, November 6, 2026, is Day 28 of lunar month 9 in the Vietnamese lunar calendarDetails ›

Step 1: Install vLunar and open it once

  1. 1Download vLunar from Google Play (button at the end of this page).
  2. 2Open the app once so the widget has lunar dates and events to show.

Step 2: Add the widget to the home screen

  1. 1Touch and hold an empty spot on the home screen (not an app icon).
  2. 2Tap Widgets.
  3. 3Scroll to or search for vLunar and tap it to see the widget sizes.
  4. 4Touch and hold the size you want and drag it onto the home screen, or tap Add if your phone has that button.
  5. 5To resize: touch and hold the widget until a frame appears, then drag the edges of the frame.

Steps by brand

  • Samsung (One UI): touch and hold the home screen > Widgets > type vLunar in the search field > tap the widget > Add.
  • Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO (HyperOS, MIUI): touch and hold the home screen or pinch with two fingers > Widgets > find vLunar > drag the widget out.
  • OPPO, realme (ColorOS, realme UI): touch and hold the home screen > Widgets > pick vLunar > drag the widget out.
  • vivo (OriginOS, Funtouch OS): touch and hold or pinch on the home screen > Widgets > pick vLunar > drag the widget out.

Widget does not change date after midnight?

Many Android phones stop background apps to save battery, so the widget does not refresh. Let vLunar run in the background:

  1. 1Open Settings > Apps > vLunar.
  2. 2Open Battery and choose Unrestricted (the name differs by brand, for example Allow background activity).
  3. 3On Xiaomi, also turn on Autostart for vLunar if your phone has it.
  4. 4Remove the widget and add it again.

Pro users: open vLunar > Setting > User Guide > Widget tab and tap Sync home screen widget.

The free version already has small, medium and large widgets, 7 colour themes and lets you pick a background photo for the widget (a built-in image or one of your own). Pro adds deeper customisation such as colours, text, the lunar and solar layout and unlimited countdown widgets.

Frequently asked questions

Is the vLunar lunar calendar widget on Android free?+

Yes. Home screen widgets are free. Pro adds deeper customisation, unlimited countdown widgets and the weather forecast part of the meteorology block.

vLunar is not in the widget list?+

Open vLunar once and try again. If you use a third-party launcher, allow it to add widgets. Finally, try restarting the phone.

Can the widget show the full moon and new moon?+

Yes. Create an event that repeats every lunar month (for example the full moon on day 15 or the new moon on day 1) or every lunar year (memorial days) in the app; it shows on the day card and the app reminds you on the right lunar date.
